Rebecca Horn is a German installation artist, who Neil made me aware of. He said to look at her work in relation to my textile crochet project. But actually I didn’t find her work with the masks, being inclosed or protected that appealing. It just reminded me of Edward Scissorhands.
I did find one work with was very aesthetically pleasing to me, it is a public sculpture on a beach in Barcelona.

‘Homentage a la Barceloneta’
I chose this picture of the sculpture because it features a man sun bathing in an awkward (concrete can’t be very comfortable) position on the same raised up bit where the sculpture is situated. I like this, because it removes the idea that art is something you should respect (physically), something that should be protected/guarded. Of course, it would be different if the sculpture had been a tiny little delicate thing that could have been broken/stolen easily. However, I still like it for the said reasons above.
To me this public sculpture is very visually stunning. I have quite a strange sense of beautiful aesthetic? I really do think it is lovely in all it’s red rusty glory, the way the boxes don’t sit perfectly and neatly on top of each other really works. It gives it charm. When I think about it, it is bizarre how a German woman could create something that doesn’t look out of place in Spain. I would gladly live inside it.
Actually I’m going to find out what is inside it.
Okay, it seems to be just empty space, with windows each side. I want to live in this piece of art, how great, right on the beach with good light and in Spain. Ridiculous dream, I know.
